G'day China

Teachers

Travelling to China has been a highlight of my trips overseas. The sheer size of their population, the chaotic traffic, the ancient history has to be seen to be believed. The people are extremely friendly and I always felt safe walking around the cities at any time. Now that China has opened their doors again to the west, their standard of living and opportunities for employment has improved rapidly.

Having a love of history, I had always wanted to visit China, especially after reading about the discovery of the Terra-cotta Warriors of the Qing Dynasty near Xian. It was a mind blowing experience to walk into the first pit and see hundreds of pottery soldiers all lined up in rows of three, as though they were marching to war to protect their emperor – foot soldiers, generals, archers, horses so beautifully crafted and restored you expected them to come to life before your eyes. The two chariots pulled by bronze horses were just as amazing. And to think this all happened in 200BC!

No one should go to China without the opportunity to walk on the Great Wall, visit the Forbidden City and one of the Ming tombs dating back many centuries.

I have visited China twice now and could easily go back a third time and visit some of the more western provinces or cruise the Yangtze River where the scenery is supposed to be spectacular.

I can highly recommend EWT’s tours they are very good value for money and efficiently run.

Many thanks
